A bullish President William Ruto has vowed tp proceed with the Kenya Kwanza affordable housing project despite ongoing court injunctions against the scheme.
Ruto spoke while in Bungoma County on Thursday, February 01, to oversee the commissioning of one such project.
President Ruto emphasized that the legal hurdles would not hinder his administration’s efforts.
Addressing the contractors involved in the construction works, President Ruto urged them to persist in their efforts despite the apparent delays caused by court interventions.
“The Constitution of Kenya mandates me to explain if there is a problem if we cannot raise money to do housing. We have a plan on how to raise money for housing; I have no explanation to give. This program must move forward for the benefit of Kenyans across the country,” Ruto stressed.
Ruto also took the opportunity to alleviate concerns among contractors about potential disruptions in the deductions of the housing levy affecting the plan’s implementation.
“Contractor wote wanaofanya kazi kwa mambo ya affordable housing pamoja na vijana wote wanafanya kazi kwa mpango huu, waendelee kazini kwa sababu hii mpango inaendelea mpaka pale tutamalizana na mambo kule kortini,” the president reassured.
In related news, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has since written to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, demanding a refund of monies already deducted from MPs and other PSC staff.
