The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended M.P. Shah Hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers as investigations continue into undisclosed concerns raised by the authority.
In a notice issued by SHA, the suspension took effect on June 23 and affects services provided under four major healthcare schemes:
- The Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF)
- The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF)
- The Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF)
- The Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF)
SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi clarified that patients who were already admitted before the suspension came into force will continue receiving treatment at the facility until they are formally discharged.
However, beneficiaries seeking new admissions, outpatient services, follow-up treatment, or other healthcare services under the affected funds have been advised to seek care from alternative SHA-contracted facilities.
The authority has further directed patients who require assistance with referrals, transfer arrangements, or continuity of care to contact SHA through its toll-free helpline, 147.
The suspension remains in force pending the outcome of investigations, with SHA yet to publicly disclose the specific issues under review. The move is expected to affect thousands of beneficiaries who rely on M.P. Shah Hospital for services under the national health insurance programmes.
