Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a new legal challenge after former producer Rodney Jones, also known as Lil Rod, filed a 70-page lawsuit on Monday at the Federal District Court in Manhattan. The lawsuit accuses Mr. Combs of pressuring Lil Rod, Meek Mill, and other artists into engaging in unwanted sexual activities in exchange for Grammy nominations and awards.
Lil Rod, who claimed to have produced nine tracks for Diddy’s recent album “The Love Album: Off the Grid,” alleged that he endured sexual assault, drug dealing, and participation in various sexual activities during his 13-month stay at Diddy’s residence while working on the album. Despite his contributions, Lil Rod stated that he was only paid $21,000.
He claimed Diddy on several occasions groped his “anus and crotch without consent,” and even exploited his admiration of Stevie J, whom he idolised and looked up to, to force him into engaging in homosexual acts.
Lil Rod claimed that he was shown a video of Stevie J engaging in explicit acts, with Diddy asserting that such activities were commonplace in the music industry.
According to Lil Rod, he was forced to watch Diddy taking showers and given drinks laced with drugs to weaken his resistance to unwanted advances.
Lil Rod, describing himself as a heterosexual Christian man, expressed discomfort with Mr. Combs’ actions and reported the incidents to Chief of Staff Kristina Khorram, who allegedly dismissed his complaints.
Lil Rod asserted that Diddy promised him a Grammy in the producer of the year category if he engaged in homosexuality. The lawsuit also claimed that Diddy disclosed engaging in sexual activities with a male rapper whose description matched Meek Mill.
Demanding $30 million in compensation, Lil Rod’s lawsuit has been met with strong denial from Diddy’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, who labeled Lil Rod as a liar seeking an undeserved payday.
“His reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines,” Mr Holley told Rolling Stone.
Diddy has faced sexual assault allegations in the past, notably from his former record label signee and ex-girlfriend, Cassandra Ventura, who sued him for $30 million last year. The previous case was settled amicably within 24 hours, according to Diddy’s legal team.
