Safaricom has announced that starting Monday, February 5, 2024, M-Pesa customers will no longer have the ability to send money to unregistered users.

The telecommunications giant company announced this development through a statement released on Saturday, February 03.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash,” the statement reads.

Registered users will still have access to the full range of services, including sending and receiving cash from various mobile money providers.

However, unregistered users will no longer be able to receive funds through M-Pesa.

Safaricom further advised customers who have not yet registered for mobile money services to complete the registration process.

“We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Documents.”
