A 26-year-old man, identified as Samuel Otieno, lost his life on Tuesday evening after falling and drowning in the waters of Lake Victoria near Uhanya Beach in Bondo, Siaya County.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the incident was reported to the Uhanya police patrol base by a member of the Uhanya Beach Management Unit security team, Buluma Owino.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the patrol base promptly visited the scene to attempt a rescue.

Police reports indicate that the deceased, who also suffered from epilepsy, had gone to the lakeshore to take a bath. Unfortunately, he experienced a seizure and fell into the water.

Kimaiyo explained that local fishermen, aided by members of the public, swiftly responded to the situation in an attempt to rescue the man. Tragically, they were only able to retrieve his body, as he had already passed away.

Following the retrieval of the body, it was transported to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy.
