Arsenal has been drawn to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals. If they manage to defeat the German champions, they will then confront either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the subsequent round.
The Gunners’ advancement to this stage of the competition marks their first appearance in the quarterfinals in 14 years, achieved through a thrilling victory over Porto. In a tense first leg, Mikel Arteta’s team suffered a late setback when Galeno scored in the 95th minute at Estadio do Dragao.
A first-half goal from Leandro Trossard levelled the aggregate score in the second leg at Emirates Stadium, but penalties were required to determine the winner. Fortunately, David Raya’s heroics in the shootout, where he saved two penalties, ensured Arsenal’s progression as they converted all four of their spot kicks.
Now, Arsenal’s reward for reaching the quarterfinals is a challenging tie against Bayern Munich.
The draw in Nyon also unveiled the potential pathway to this season’s final at Wembley Stadium. Should Arsenal overcome Bayern, they will then face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the semifinals.
The first leg of the quarterfinal is scheduled to take place at Emirates Stadium on either April 9th or 10th, with the second leg at the Allianz Arena the following week on either April 16th or 17th. These fixtures will be sandwiched between a Premier League encounter against Champions League-chasing Aston Villa.
If Arsenal progresses to the semifinals, they will host the first leg at Emirates Stadium on April 30th or May 1st, followed by the second leg on either May 7th or 8th. These potential matches will bookend a home fixture against Bournemouth.
The specific dates for the games will be confirmed by UEFA in due course.
