The government has issued a directive instructing all Ministries, State Departments, State Corporations, and Agencies to reduce their spending immediately by avoiding purchases of non-essential items like promotional materials.

In a circular issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, these offices have been directed to streamline their operations by cutting back on non-essential expenses in accordance with guidelines provided by the National Treasury.

As part of the cost-cutting measures, the procurement, printing, and production of corporate attire such as t-shirts, shirts, track suits, and branded clothing have been suspended.

Additionally, the purchase of promotional items has been halted.

“Suspend and immediately cease the purchase of promotional merchandise such as calendars, diaries, umbrellas, power banks, key holders, bags, flasks, cups, branded traditional blankets (shukas), and notebooks,” Koskei stated.

All departments have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with these austerity measures, aimed at safeguarding social development spending.

This directive follows President William Ruto’s recent directive that the government, including State corporations, must adhere to strict financial discipline and live within its means.
