The Ministry of Lands has issued a notice to residents of six Government Estates in Nairobi’s Eastlands area to vacate, allowing for their redevelopment under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP).

The notice, signed by Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, specifies the affected estates as Jogoo Road Phase I & II, Jamaa, Mbotela, Ahero, and Mawenzi Gardens.

“The Government is implementing the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) as part of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Pursuant to this, several old estates have been identified for redevelopment to increase rental stock, provide houses for sale at affordable rates to citizens, and create job opportunities for the youth,” stated the notice.

Residents have been ordered to vacate their homes by April 30, 2024, after settling any outstanding rent arrears, utility bills, and service charges.

“To facilitate their redevelopment, all tenants residing in these Government estates need to vacate immediately,” the notice further reads.

According to the notice, residents who vacate these estates will receive priority for purchasing or renting a house once the redevelopment is completed.
