Kenya’s Special Operations Group, a unit of highly trained Special Forces officers, achieved a significant victory in the war on terror on Saturday when they intercepted and neutralized five Al-Shabaab militants who were heading to Fafi Constituency in Garissa County.
In addition to eliminating the threat posed by the militants, the Special Forces also captured four Al-Shabaab fighters, who are currently undergoing interrogation.
According to sources within the police department, the Kenyan forces seized a cache of weapons, including 2 PKM machine guns, 1 RPM machine gun, 6 AK-47 rifles, and various materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Furthermore, they recovered telephones and SIM cards, which are expected to yield valuable intelligence.
“A quick exploitation of the phones has so far given important leads on a number of local AS facilitation network,” the police said.
The operation, which was based on actionable intelligence, caught the militants off guard as they attempted to establish a temporary camp in the Fafi area.
