Former Kakamega Governor and ODM deputy leader, Wycliffe Oparanya, wants to take over from Raila Odinga, who’s eyeing the African Union Commission chairmanship.
Oparanya made his intentions clear in Butere Constituency last Saturday. He confidently stated that he’s ready to lead the party, highlighting his long experience in leadership.
“If Raila heads to Addis Ababa and wins the presidency of over fifty nations by next February, which is a possibility, we’ll have enough time to get ready. I’m ready to step up and lead ODM,” said Oparanya.
He stressed his qualifications for the role, pointing to his past roles as a Member of Parliament, Minister, and Governor.
Backing for Oparanya’s bid also came from Kakamega governor Fernande Barasa, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Butere Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale. They pledged their support and expressed confidence in ODM’s strength and unity under Oparanya’s leadership.
