Royal Media Services (RMS), a leading Kenyan media house, has announced a significant restructuring of its sports department. This move aims to streamline sports coverage across all their platforms, including TV, Radio, and Digital.
The changes were announced in a memo by Linus Kaikai, Group Editorial Director and Head of Strategy at RMS. He highlighted the desire to create a more unified approach to sports journalism within the organization.
“To further realize our objectives, it has become necessary to re-organize our operations and I am consequently delighted to announce the following changes,” read the memo in part.
“After several months of successful experimentation, I am pleased to announce the consolidation of the Group’s sports news across all platforms and the establishment of an all-under-one sports section named the RMS Sports Centre,” stated Kaikai
A key element of the restructuring is the establishment of a central hub – the RMS Sports Centre. This platform will act as a single point for coordinating and producing sports content across all RMS platforms.
Leadership changes were also announced. Young Muthomi has been promoted to Managing Editor of Radio News and Sports, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the RMS Sports Centre, including editorial and administrative duties.
Additionally, Isaac Swila takes on the newly created role of Head of RMS Sports Centre. Swila will be responsible for ensuring all platforms receive coordinated sports coverage.
This streamlining effort extends to content creation as well. Kaikai confirmed that all sports-related content, regardless of platform, will be channelled through the RMS Sports Centre.
