Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro attended a church service in opposition chief Raila Odinga’s home area in Bondo Constituency.
Nyoro’s visit comes in the wake of President William Ruto’s recent tour of the same area and a new found friendship between the head of state and Raila.
This has heightened speculation that Nyoro’s visit could be part of a wider change of the political landscape.
“We appreciate the commitment of the leaders in this area towards bringing about positive change and development to the constituency,” said Nyoro.
Addressing the congregation at Bondo Catholic church, Nyoro touched on the government’s emphasis on education, aligning his stance with the ongoing budget formulation process within Parliament.
“During the ongoing budget formulation process, the government is prioritizing growth in agriculture, education, and youth employment,” Nyoro remarked, shedding light on key sectors targeted for development.
“We have increased allocations to the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC), allocating Ksh26 million to hire teachers who were on internship on a permanent and pensionable basis,” he said.
The MP also called for a departure from ethnic politics, urging Kenyans to unite for the overall improvement of the nation.
Furthermore, he encouraged the youth to explore job opportunities on the international stage as a means of combating unemployment.
“We need to move away from divisive ethnic politics and work together for the betterment of our country,” Nyoro emphasized, advocating for a more inclusive and united approach to national progress.
Touching on the matter of international job opportunities, Nyoro revealed a concerning disparity: “There were only 500 positions applied for despite 2,000 nursing positions gazetted by the government.” This underscored the need for increased awareness and participation among the youth in pursuing such opportunities.
Praising Homa Bay County for a recent conference, Nyoro urged leaders across the country to emulate the development initiatives witnessed in Nyanza.
Despite speculation placing Nyoro as a potential running mate for President Ruto in the 2027 election, he reiterated the national government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions, irrespective of political affiliations.
President Ruto, during his earlier visit to Homa Bay, hinted at supporting Raila’s bid for the AUC chair position.
“I promised that I would work so hard to ensure that everyone is accommodated. You did not believe me. Now you can see how things are going,” President Ruto stated, using this as evidence to underscore his commitment to national unity.
