A harrowing road accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway near the Sayatu area has left two individuals dead and several others grappling with serious injuries. The unfortunate incident unfolded when an 11-seater matatu belonging to Eldoret Shuttles, transporting passengers of Eritrean origin bound for Eldoret, collided with a stationary truck parked adjacent to the road.
According to reports filed at the Salgaa police station, the truck had encountered mechanical issues, compelling it to remain unattended without any warning signals. Tragically, the matatu plowed into the stationary truck, resulting in casualties and significant injuries among the passengers.
Prompt response efforts saw the injured promptly evacuated to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for urgent medical attention. However, due to language barriers, the identities of the survivors remain unidentified at this juncture. Regrettably, two individuals lost their lives while undergoing treatment at the hospital, while twelve others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently admitted for care.
In the wake of the incident, authorities swiftly transported the bodies of the deceased to the Nakuru County morgue, where they await formal identification and postmortem examination. This distressing event, occurring at 9:40 pm on Saturday, underscores the imperative of ensuring road safety and vigilance, particularly concerning the maintenance of vehicles and adherence to traffic regulations.
