Authorities at Ekerenyo station, Nyamira County, are currently investigating an incident whereia 6-year-old boy tragically passed away while five other family members, including parents and siblings, were afflicted with stomach ailments after purportedly eating a poisonous cassava.

As per a police report, the family members, comprising parents and four children aged 16, 12, 8, and 6, ate the cassava during their lunch. However, as night fell, they began experiencing severe stomach pains, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Prompt action by concerned neighbors saw the stricken family rushed to Ekerenyo Hospital for initial medical attention. Subsequently, they were transferred to Nyamira General Hospital for further treatment.

Unfortunately the youngest member of the family, Shadrack Mosigisi, succumbed to complications arising from the poisoning. The parents and one child were eventually treated and discharged, albeit one child remained in critical condition due to the effects of the poisonous ingestion.

In the pursuit of answers and justice, police officers visited the family’s residence, where they collected samples of both cooked and raw cassava for more investigation.
