In a spectacular finish to the fifth edition of the Kip Keino Classic held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, Olympic 200m silver medalist Kenneth Bednarek from the USA clocked an impressive 9.91 seconds in the 100m showdown to claim the gold medal.
Bednarek dominated a field of top sprinters, including the African and Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, who failed to make it to the podium. Omanyala finished in fifth place with a time of 10.03, while his compatriot Mark Otieno Odhiambo came in sixth with a time of 10.22.
The silver medal went to Liberian star Emmanuael Matadi, who clocked 9.99 seconds, while Great Britain’s Azu Jeremiah secured the bronze with a time of 10.00 seconds.
Bednarek, who had considered Omanyala a worthy rival, outperformed his previous performance in the last edition, where he had won the silver medal.
