Most parts of the nation are set to face heavy rainfall throughout this week, according to the latest advisory from the Kenya meteorological department.
Outlined in the five-day forecast spanning from April 9 to April 13, the weatherman has indicated that certain counties, particularly those in Northeastern Kenya, will experience heightened temperatures surpassing 30 degrees Celsius.
The mentioned counties encompass Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Turkana.
“Rainfall is expected to persist across the country, with significant precipitation anticipated in Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the forecast highlights.
As per the meteorological department, temperatures are forecasted to remain elevated (above 25°C) in portions of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
The forecast further reveals that counties situated in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, will encounter morning rainfall in isolated areas.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected in various areas during the afternoon, followed by showers in multiple locations at night.
Daytime temperatures in these counties are projected to reach as high as 28 degrees Celsius before plummeting to as low as 10 degrees Celsius overnight.
During the forecast period, counties in the North-eastern region such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are anticipated to experience daytime temperatures as high as 38 degrees Celsius, dropping to 16 degrees Celsius at night.
Rainfall in the morning, afternoon showers, and nighttime showers are expected in these counties throughout the forecast period.
Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are predicted to experience morning rains, afternoon showers, and thunderstorms in certain areas, followed by showers at night.
These include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Turkana and Samburu counties will also witness morning rains and afternoon showers and thunderstorms in specific locations during the forecast period.
Temperatures during the week are expected to peak at 36 degrees Celsius during the day and drop to as low as 13 degrees Celsius at night.
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale will experience showers in isolated areas with sunny intervals anticipated on Saturday morning.
