Transportation Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has underscored that all law enforcement officers, irrespective of their departmental affiliations, are mandated to uphold the law.
According to Murkomen, this directive stems from President William Ruto and must be strictly followed. He stressed the need for a reduction in both the frequency of road accidents and resultant fatalities.
“Good morning Kenya. Following the directives issued by His Excellency the President, all police officers are under instructions to enforce the law without considering their police departments. Such errand drivers, riders and passengers will be in a lot of trouble. The numbers must fall,” Murkomen reiterated.
These remarks were made in response to President Ruto’s recent admonition to Murkomen regarding the escalating road accidents. Ruto urged Murkomen and his team to ensure a significant decrease in road carnage incidents within a year.
“I look forward to one year from now we will have another meeting and Kipchumba Murkomen you better come and report to us that the numbers are coming down otherwise you will be in a lot of trouble,” Ruto cautioned.
Ruto directed both traffic police and the National Transport and Safety Authority to collaborate closely to bolster road safety measures.
