Kenyans are set to experience a significant reduction in fuel prices in the upcoming review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), President William Ruto has announced.

Speaking during a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, President Ruto attributed the anticipated drop of Ksh.10 to the “right decisions” made by his government to strengthen the nation’s economy.

“Today maize flour was nearing Ksh.200 its now close to Ksh.100. The dollar was Ksh.160 now it’s a hundred and twenty-something and still not done. Oil prices as you have seen have dropped with Ksh.10 today,” he said.

Ruto highlighted the positive impact of previous governmental measures, citing the reduction in maize flour prices from nearly Ksh.200 to close to Ksh.100 and the decrease in the value of the dollar from Ksh.160 to around Ksh.120.

The president underscored the importance of a pragmatic government focused on effecting positive change in the nation, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of their constituents over personal popularity.

In February, EPRA had announced a marginal reduction of Ksh.1 in fuel prices, resulting in new prices of Ksh.206.36 for Super Petrol, Ksh.195.47 for Diesel, and Ksh.193.23 for Kerosene. This decrease was attributed to a decline in the landed costs of these fuel products.

With Ruto’s projected decrease, the new prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene are expected to be Ksh.196, Ksh.185.47, and Ksh.183.23, respectively.
