A grim tragedy unfolded as a Kensilver bus en route from Meru to Nairobi had a devastating accident at the Tharaka Nithi bridge on Sunday noon, leaving several passengers feared dead and scores injured.
Tharaka Nithi County police commander Zacchaeus Ngeno confirmed the harrowing incident, stating that the cause of the accident remains undetermined as authorities initiate a thorough investigation into the fatal crash.
“We have not been able to confirm how many fatalities we have had here but we are certain that we have had some fatalities,” remarked Ngeno.
At the time of reporting, victims have been swiftly transported to nearby hospitals to assess the extent of casualties and injuries, as rescue operations persist amidst a flurry of county officers and medical personnel inundating the scene.
“We call upon all drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy at all times, especially public vehicles,” urged Ngeno, emphasizing the critical importance of vehicular safety standards.
