This morning, widespread flooding has rendered the Namanga road impassable as the Athi River burst its banks, causing a complete halt to traffic flow.

The flooding, originating from the upstream Ngong area and converging into the Athi River township, was marked by intense morning rains, resulting in a forceful surge that swept away everything in its path. The sole bridge along Namanga road, connecting it to Mombasa road, became fully submerged as the river transformed into a raging torrent resembling a sea.

Motorists found themselves stranded on both sides of the road, with traffic congestion extending for over five kilometers in each direction. Thousands of residents and travelers flocked to the scene to witness the extraordinary event, reminiscent of a similar occurrence a decade ago.

The inundation has left much of Athi River Township immobilized, prompting panic among residents. Dozens of families residing in the nearby Kasoito slums found themselves trapped in their homes by the rising floodwaters.
