The community of Kapkures village in Ainamoi Sub-county, Kericho County, was plunged into shock and sorrow following the brutal murder of a 33-year-old man by known attackers for reasons yet to be determined.
Moses Langat, the Assistant Chief of Tendwet Sub-location, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the victim, identified as Cosmas Langat, was viciously attacked and killed. According to Langat, the victim was in the company of a friend when assailants, who were familiar to him, emerged from the darkness, ambushed him, and forcefully took him to an undisclosed location.
While the friend managed to escape and alert the deceased’s family, Cosmas Langat failed to return home, prompting his wife to report the alarming situation to the authorities. Tragically, when the victim was eventually found, he had succumbed to severe injuries inflicted by the assailants.
Langat revealed that this was not the first attempt on Cosmas Langat’s life, as he had narrowly escaped a previous attack when unknown individuals set fire to his house. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed on that occasion, although his wife suffered minor burns.
Expressing deep concern over the surge in murder and suicide cases in the area, Langat urged residents to refrain from such violent acts and seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
The Brooke police station was notified of the incident, prompting law enforcement officers to swiftly respond to the scene and transport the victim’s body to the Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the perpetrators who fled the scene after committing the heinous crime.
