Police in Kisumu arrested six suspects and recovered 14 stolen drums of aluminium valued at Sh7 million belonging to Kenya Power.
The operation, conducted jointly by officers from Kondele Police Station and KPLC, resulted in the retrieval of 14 drums of Kenya Power aluminium conductors, along with nine rolls of binding wires worth Sh500,000 and seven earth rods. The materials were seized as they were being loaded onto a lorry in the Carwash area near Marende estate, intended for transportation to Nyamasaria.
Bernard Ambaka, the Chief Security Officer for KPLC’s Western Kenya region, revealed that the stolen materials were taken from their yard in Carwash. The suspects are currently being held at Kondele Police Station and are set to be arraigned in court on Monday, April 15.
The arrests occurred over two days, with two suspects apprehended on Friday night during the operation led by Kondele Police Station’s OCS Dancun Ogechi. Following a tip-off from members of the public, four more suspects were arrested on Saturday morning.
Ambaka further disclosed that a total of 108 drums of aluminium bacles, valued at Sh54 million, had been stolen from the yard, along with 311 rolls of aluminium conductors. These aluminium conductors are crucial components used in constructing low voltage lines to connect customers to the grid.
