A traffic police officer, allegedly captured on camera receiving bribes from motorists, has been suspended pending further investigation.
The footage, shared on TikTok, depicts a uniformed officer stationed on a roadside, interacting with drivers and conductors of passing vehicles and ‘collecting something’ as the vehicles pass.
Although the exact nature of what he receives is unclear from the video, he is seen collecting what is assumed to be bribes from the matatu conductors in at least two vehicles.
The Police Headquarters has confirmed the suspension, stating, “Further to our earlier communication on the ongoing administrative action, the officer has been suspended and disciplinary proceedings for his dismissal are ongoing.”
Previously, the National Police Service had disclosed that the officer was removed from the Traffic Police Unit and recalled to police headquarters for additional administrative measures following his identification. The officer was stationed at the Buruburu police station.
