President William Ruto’s deputy aide-de-camp has undergone a change in less than two years of service.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Lieutenant Colonel Joan Osweto has assumed the position, replacing Colonel Damaris Agnetta Apondi, who has been reassigned to other military duties.
Colonel Osweto made her first public appearance on Thursday at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County during President Ruto’s attendance at the National Drama and Film Festival winners’ state concert. She serves as the deputy to President Ruto’s aide-de-camp, Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga.
Colonel Apondi was appointed to the role in September 2022, following President Ruto’s assumption of office, succeeding Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Nduta, who served during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
The role of an aide-de-camp extends beyond being perceived as a mere bodyguard or personal assistant to the President. In addition to providing security, they are responsible for managing the President’s schedule and coordinating with the main security team.
