A joint security team comprising multiple agencies has successfully nabbed a wanted terror suspect, believed to be involved in the heinous killings of a police officer and a chief in Lamu County in December 2019.

“The suspect was arrested in a Malindi-bound bus during a Sunday afternoon operation conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Police, with support from their Special Operations Group (SOG) counterparts at the Sambaki Bridge roadblock, while en route from Lamu,” stated DCI Chief Mohamed Amin.

Amin further disclosed that following the brutal killings, the suspect and an accomplice sought refuge in the Boni Forest.

Efforts to flush them out of the forest led to their evasion and escape to a neighboring country.

In April 2023, three individuals suspected to be associated with the same gang were intercepted and arrested along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while attempting to re-enter the country.

“They were arrested and subsequently charged at the Kahawa Law Courts. Their case is currently ongoing,” Amin elaborated.

Additional suspects linked to the incidents have been identified but remain at large, under the continuous surveillance of law enforcement.
