The late Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, will be laid to rest in accordance with his wishes, as revealed by his elder brother, Canon Hezekiah Oduor.
Canon Oduor disclosed that General Ogolla’s burial on Sunday will be conducted without a coffin, adhering to his specific instructions outlined in his will.
According to Canon Oduor, the burial will be a simple affair, as per the late General’s wishes. General Ogolla had expressed a desire for a modest and straightforward burial, which is why he stipulated in his will to be interred within 72 hours of his passing.
He had even identified the precise location near his home in Mor village, Siaya County, where he wished to be laid to rest.
General Ogolla’s choice for a simple ritual burial, similar to Muslim practices of wrapping the deceased in sheets, was made to reduce any undue pressure on his family. Despite the simplicity, the family will observe other Luo rituals as part of the burial proceedings.
Canon Oduor extended an invitation to those who wish to mourn with the family, whether in spirit or in person. He assured that there will be enough provisions for all visitors, regardless of their preferences.
The late General’s sister, Peris Onyango, shared that her brother was well-prepared for his passing. Despite her attempts to discourage him from dwelling on such thoughts, General Ogolla would frequently describe to her how he envisioned his burial whenever he visited.
