The body of a man who tragically lost his life when a quarry he was working in collapsed in Ngucue quarry, Murinduko ward, Kirinyaga County, has finally been recovered. Josphat Muchiri, aged 54, was the victim of the unfortunate incident.
After waiting in anticipation for the county government of Kirinyaga to respond, residents took matters into their own hands. Using hoes and spades, they tirelessly searched for Muchiri’s body for over 24 hours until a local trader, Mr. Muchangi, arrived with an excavator to assist in the retrieval efforts.
“At last, the body of Muchiri has been retrieved by Mr. Muchangi after residents, using hoes and spades, failed to find his body,” shared Paul Muna, one of the residents involved in the search.
The quarry collapse occurred on Tuesday night while Muchiri was working alongside two others who managed to escape unharmed.
Following the retrieval of the body, it was transported to Kerugoya mortuary as preparations for his burial continue in Kanjinji village.
