President William Ruto focused on unity and national development rather than politics during the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday. He emphasized the importance of leaders working together across political divides for the success of Kenya.
Ruto reminded cabinet secretaries and elected leaders of the privilege and responsibility they hold, urging them to deliver on their mandates. “We all indeed understand what the challenges are and what we need to do,” Ruto said. “I ask all of us to have the courage to do the right thing however difficult it is; it is the only way we can pull our country and take our country into the future.”
The President highlighted the country’s goal of creating more jobs for the youth through the digital economy, aiming for a prosperous nation. He challenged leaders to redouble their efforts to achieve this goal, emphasizing unity regardless of political affiliation. “Without minding whether this constituency belongs to a member who is government or in opposition, we are all one nation. Our target is to make sure that every child in Kenya has an opportunity,” he stated.
Ruto also mentioned the interconnectedness of Kenya’s destiny and the importance of building bridges among leaders. As the father figure of the nation, he expressed his responsibility to ensure all leaders work together.
The National Prayer Breakfast, an annual ecumenical event organized by the Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate, took place under the theme ‘Hope.’ The event, organized by dedicated volunteers on the National Prayer Breakfast Organizing Committee, aims to bring leaders from various sectors of society together to pray for the nation.
The tradition of the National Prayer Breakfast began in May 2003, shortly after the late President Mwai Kibaki assumed office.
