UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has criticized Cabinet Secretaries Moses Kuria (Public Service) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport) for their involvement in political activities.
In a statement on Wednesday, Malala emphasized that Cabinet Secretaries are legally required to remain apolitical and must adhere to this mandate.
“It has come to my attention that some Cabinet Secretaries have been engaging in political activities, contrary to the law which requires them to remain apolitical,” Malala stated.
He further asserted that if these Cabinet Secretaries wish to participate in politics, they should resign from their public offices.
Malala stressed that their primary duty is to serve the Kenyan people.
“Moses Kuria, as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender, and Affirmative Action, your main responsibility is to serve within your docket. If you wish to engage in politics, you should resign and enter the political arena,” Malala said.
“Similarly, Kipchumba Murkomen, as the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, you should focus on addressing the critical issues in your ministry, such as repairing roads damaged by recent floods. Serve the Kenyan people or step down and return to politics,” he added.
Malala, speaking after his return from China, expressed deep concern over the conduct of leaders within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), noting a lack of respect for the party’s leadership.
His comments come amid reports of a division in the Rift Valley over support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Murkomen recently accompanied the DP to Uasin Gishu for a fundraiser, rallying support for Gachagua.
Meanwhile, CS Kuria has openly defied the Deputy President, frequently disagreeing with him on social media. Despite this, Kuria maintains that Gachagua is his boss and a good friend.
