The decomposed body of a 30-year-old woman, Mary Njoki, who had been missing for several days, was discovered in her home in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The discovery was made on the evening of May 28 after neighbors on Lumumba Drive reported a foul smell emanating from her residence. Concerned by the odor and noticing that they had not seen Njoki for about four days, they alerted the police.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the house locked from the inside with a padlock. Upon breaking into the house, they discovered Njoki’s body, half-naked and decomposed, lying on the bed.
Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei stated that the cause of death was not immediately known. It was reported that Njoki lived alone and had minimal interaction with her neighbors.
The body has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy and other procedures to determine the cause of death.
