Police in Kisauni, Mombasa County, have arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen vehicle initially reported missing at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi.

The suspects, Emmanuel Mugodo Sabwa (42) and Erick Maingi Muimi (34), were nabbed after detectives traced a silver Toyota Axio, registration number KDP 289B, to the Utange area in Mombasa. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the vehicle’s tracking device had been discarded about 20 meters from a walled compound where the car was recovered.

At the scene, the vehicle was found bearing a different registration number, KDA 348V, with its dashboard partially dismantled—indicating preparations for a resale or disassembly for parts.

Also seized during the operation were various car keys, dismantled car trackers, a key programming machine, multiple number plates (KDJ 885G, KDP 289B, SSD 763A, and KCT 278Y), two logbooks for vehicles KCU 527H and KDA 348V, and an HP laptop.

The suspects are in custody as investigations continue into the car theft syndicate.
