Detectives in Samia Sub-County have launched investigations into the murder of a man who was hacked to death by unknown assailants during a late-night disco matanga in Funyula Constituency, Busia County.
According to preliminary investigations, the fatal attack occurred after a disagreement broke out between the victim and a group of unidentified individuals over a financial dispute linked to fundraising contributions during the funeral event.
Police said the confrontation escalated, with the victim sustaining deep cut wounds that proved fatal. He died at the scene before emergency responders could intervene.
The attackers fled immediately after the incident and remain at large.
The killing has renewed concerns among residents over the safety of disco matanga events, which are traditionally organised to raise funds for bereaved families. Community members claim such gatherings have increasingly been associated with violence, crime, drug abuse and general insecurity.
Police officers processed the crime scene before moving the victim’s body to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Detectives have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
