The East Africa Pentecostal Church (EAPC) Ugweri Church in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County, is counting losses after thieves broke into the church and stole equipment and other valuables worth approximately KSh800,000.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 2am on Wednesday after the thieves broke a window to gain entry into the church.
The suspects made away with several sound system equipment, including a keyboard, sound mixer, amplifier, crossover, speakers, microphones and cables.
According to church overseer Rev. Joseph Njue, the thieves also stole two generators, a 13-kilogramme gas cylinder and assorted church utensils, including 10 cooking pots.
The theft was discovered at around 10am on Thursday when church members arrived to carry out their usual daily activities.
Rev. Njue said the church does not have a night security guard, which may have allowed the suspects to operate without being detected.
The overseer described the incident as a major loss, noting that the stolen equipment had been acquired through years of contributions and sacrifices by church members.
“We are devastated not just by the loss of property, but also by the desecration of God’s house,” Rev. Njue said.
The matter has since been reported to the police, with investigations underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the break-in and trace the stolen property.
Rev. Njue appealed to members of the public, business owners and second-hand dealers to remain vigilant and report anyone attempting to sell the stolen equipment.
