Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and her driver were hospitalized on Sunday, May 18, after a dramatic and violent encounter with police during a charity event in Tigania East, Meru County.

Mwangaza was presiding over her signature ‘Okolea’ outreach program, aimed at supporting people living with disabilities, when police stormed the gathering and hurled teargas canisters to disperse the crowd. I

n a shocking twist, one of the canisters was reportedly thrown directly into her vehicle, where she was seated with her husband.

Viral Footage Shows Mwangaza in Distress

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, a visibly shaken Mwangaza is seen choking and in tears, struggling to breathe from the effects of the gas. Witnesses at the scene described a moment of chaos as attendees, including vulnerable members of the community, fled for safety.

Her driver sustained a head injury during the scuffle and was also rushed to the hospital for emergency care.
