President William Ruto has appointed Adan Haji Ali as the new non-executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), replacing George Wanga, whose appointment has been revoked.

The appointment was made through a special issue of the Kenya Gazette dated June 16, 2025, where President Ruto exercised his powers under Section 12(1)(a) of the Energy Act, 2019.

According to the Gazette Notice No. 7850, “The appointment of George Wanga is revoked.”

Ali, a former Member of Parliament for Mandera South Constituency, will serve for a three-year term, effective immediately. As non-executive chair, he is expected to steer the Authority’s corporate governance, provide strategic oversight, and guide policy direction to enable EPRA to fulfil its statutory mandate and performance goals.

Wanga, the husband of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, had only served in the role since his appointment on January 17, 2025, also by President Ruto.
