Calm has returned to the Nyamira County Assembly after a prolonged leadership crisis that crippled legislative operations for over ten months. The impasse, sparked by the ouster of former Speaker Enock Okero in September last year, has finally been resolved with the official installation of Thaddeus Nyabaro as the new Speaker.
In the same transition, Duke Onyari has formally assumed office as the Clerk of the Assembly, solidifying the new leadership structure that marks a fresh start for the devolved unit.
Speaking to journalists at the County Assembly precincts, Speaker Nyabaro called for unity and welcomed back Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who had been part of the breakaway ‘Bunge Mashinani’ faction.
“We are glad to see some of our colleagues back to the House. I urge those who are still out there to return and help us drive the legislative agenda forward,” said Nyabaro.
The Assembly’s Majority Leader echoed the Speaker’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for reconciliation to allow for effective debate and service delivery to the people of Nyamira.
Nyabaro also confirmed that the Assembly had officially received the 2025/26 budget estimates, setting the stage for scrutiny, amendments, and eventual approval.
“The budget estimates are now with us, and we are ready to begin the discussions and refinements necessary before they are approved,” he said.
The resolution of the leadership wrangles is expected to pave the way for smooth House operations, with attention now turning to key legislative duties and county development priorities.
