ODM candidate Boyd Were has officially won the Kasipul Constituency Parliamentary by-election, securing 16,819 votes to succeed his late father, Ong’ondo Were, who passed away in April.
The constituency Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku announced the results early Friday morning at the tallying centre in Agoro Sare High School, marking a decisive victory for the Orange Democratic Movement in one of its traditional strongholds.
Independent candidate Philip Aroko followed in second place with 8,476 votes, while Collins Omondi Okeyo of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) secured 4,796 votes.
Other candidates received:
- Issack Kiche – 201
- Robert Money Bior – 519
- Rateng Okoth Kotiende – 72
- Jesse Okello – 55
- Jaezmen Linda Aoko – 26
- Robert Ouma – 17
- Ishmael Omondi Koyoo – 98
After receiving his certificate, Boyd Were thanked the voters of Kasipul for placing their trust in him. He pledged to continue the development agenda championed by his late father, promising to focus on education, infrastructure, and community welfare projects.
“I am grateful to the people of Kasipul for giving me this mandate. I will honour my father’s legacy by ensuring development continues,” Boyd told supporters at the tallying centre.
Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga praised Boyd’s victory, saying it demonstrated ODM’s enduring influence in the region. She noted that the win reflects confidence in the party’s leadership and vision.
Wanga added that her county government would work closely with the MP-elect to advance growth and improve services in Kasipul. “We will partner with Boyd to deliver tangible development to the people of Kasipul,” she said.
The Kasipul Constituency by-election results solidify ODM’s foothold in Homa Bay County and highlight the electorate’s desire for continuity following the loss of Ong’ondo Were.
