Police have arrested seven suspects linked to the violent chaos that erupted at Kariobangi North PCEA Church on Sunday, November 30.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the suspects were tracked down and arrested in the Lucky Summer area. Those in custody include Charles Otieno Opiyo, Wilson Okoth alias M.C. Otieno, Michael Mutunga Kavulunze, Brian Omondi Odhiambo alias “Bryo”, Reggy Opiyo Otwole, Elisha Otieno Ochieng, and Gordon Odhiambo Onyango.
According to police, the suspects are currently being processed ahead of being arraigned in court.
NPS added that more arrests are expected once ongoing investigations — including photographic and acoustic analysis — are concluded.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to report any information linked to the incident.
“We ask anyone who may have witnessed or has any information regarding the incident to contact the nearest police station or use toll-free numbers 999, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203), or WhatsApp 0709 570 000,” the statement read.
The Sunday chaos broke out during a thanksgiving service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and opposition leaders. Police say the violence was triggered by clashes between two rival youth groups inside the church compound.
Officers intervened swiftly, but the confrontation spilled into the church, briefly disrupting the service after teargas was used to quell the unrest.
