The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has postponed the Kisumu County party delegates’ elections that had been scheduled to take place on Friday, March 6, 2026.
In a letter addressed to the Chairperson of the ODM National Elections Coordination Committee, party leader Oburu Oginga announced the cancellation of the planned exercise, citing intelligence reports indicating a highly polarised political environment.
“Following the prevailing polarized environment informed by intelligence, I have made a decision to inform you to cancel the elections slated for tomorrow Friday 6th March 2026. Kindly comply and inform the concerned parties,” the letter stated.
The delegates’ elections were expected to take place across Kisumu County as part of the party’s internal reorganisation and leadership selection process.
However, Dr. Oburu did not provide a new date for when the exercise will be conducted, leaving party members awaiting further communication from the leadership.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions within the party’s grassroots structures in Kisumu, a region widely considered a stronghold of the ODM party.
