Three engineers from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) have died after a vehicle they were traveling in was on Wednesday attacked by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Bura East, Garissa County.

The group of engineers was on a routine assessment of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project.

Police say that an Improvised Explosion Device placed on the old LAPSSET road exploded and completely destroyed the first vehicle, a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin registration number KBV 520S.

Three bodies were recovered from the scene, with the fourth person’s body believed to have been annihilated in the wreckage.
