A New Year’s eve fun trip for a group of students from the University of Nairobi turned tragic after a boat they were riding in capsized at the Mukoloba Waterfront in Budalangi, Busia County on Saturday evening.

A search is ongoing for three students who are still missing after the accident.

The three students, who are in Year 6, Year 3, and First Year, were part of a group of seven students on a fun boat ride.

Bunyala Sub-county police commander Isaiah Mose confirmed the incident and stated that four others were rescued.

The bodies of the three have yet to be retrieved, according to the police chief, with the exercise being called off late Saturday night after darkness fell.

The search, according to Bunyala OCPD, will resume early Sunday.
