A 23-year-old man from Migori county has died after a fight with his competitor for a widow’s heart and bed turned tragic.

The man identified as Polycarp Ocholla has for months been having a secret relationship with a 34-year-old widow at West Kadem location. It is said that the man had made a habit of sneaking at night into the widow’s house for adult fun without attracting any attention.

On Monday night, however, according to area chief Clime Malongo, the deceased met another man in the widow’s house. This led to a bitter fight between the two competitors for the woman. The resulting commotion attracted villagers who rushed to the scene.

The villagers turned on Ocholla and beat him to death. The family of the deceased, in a retaliatory attack, torched three houses at the home of the widow. The area chief also stated that two people suspected of being involved in the young man’s death had been arrested.

According to the chief, the incident has caused friction between the widow’s family and the decedent’s family. He appealed to the community to give the police time to investigate the matter for the necessary legal action to be taken.
