Yoweri Museveni, the 78-year-old president of Uganda, declared on Thursday that he had taken a “forced leave of absence” following a Covid-19 test that was positive.
The head of state revealed in a statement, “Yesterday morning, I had symptoms like mild flu,” and that a test had revealed he had been infected with the Covid-19 virus.
Isolating myself as a result, he continued, “I have assigned Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja my tasks for today and tomorrow.
“Thank God, everything is fine and my symptoms are not severe. I still, however, want to exercise prudence and keep to myself for the time being “he continued.
One of the world’s most enduring leaders, Mr. Museveni has dominated his little East African nation with an iron fist for many years.
He was formerly lauded as a reformer when he assumed power in Uganda in 1986, aiding in the overthrow of Milton Obote’s and Idi Amin Dada’s totalitarian governments.
