The Inspector General of Police has promised to see that those accused of defrauding more than 5,000 youths in Eldoret of their money be prosecuted.
Koome stated that nearly 300 First Choice Recruitment Agency victims have already recorded statements with the National Police Service financial fraud investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations when he testified before the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare at the KICC in Nairobi.
He claimed that early investigations show that the Agency, which was formed under two directors named Judy Jepchirchir and Faith Waringa Gichuhi, reportedly conned young people last year by pretending to arrange jobs and study positions in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup on their behalf.
Following the conclusion of the DCI’s inquiries into the case, Koome gave the assurance that justice will be done.
Each young person allegedly paid Ksh. 40,000 and turned in their passports to the organization, but they were unable to find employment or study placements.
Senators and victims accuse the police of stalling the investigation.
