The fate of the 50 appointed Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) is set to be determined today as the High Court delivers its ruling on a petition challenging their appointment process. In a statement released by the Judiciary on Sunday, it was announced that the decision would be rendered during the course of the day.
Initially, President William Ruto administered the oath of office to the 50 CASs after the National Assembly declined to vet them, citing a lack of constitutional authority to do so.
However, the High Court subsequently issued orders preventing the CASs from assuming their roles until the petition challenging their appointment process was heard and resolved. Lady Justice Hedwig Ong’udi, in her ruling, also prohibited the appointees from receiving salaries, remuneration, or any other benefits until the case filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and Katiba Institute was concluded.
Responding to the situation, the Judiciary clarified that it had no involvement in the swearing-in ceremony and had not sent any representative to State House for the event. They emphasized that the Judiciary played no part in the process.
The appointments have been met with widespread frustration among a significant portion of Kenyan citizens who have raised concerns about the unconstitutional nature of the appointments.
