Three senior managers from BrownCheese Company Limited in Limuru were arrested on Thursday following an incident where female employees were allegedly forced to undress at work.
A manager demanded that the women strip naked in order to identify who had improperly disposed of a sanitary towel.
The arrested individuals include the plant’s Quality Assurance Manager, Human Resource Manager, and HR assistant.
They are scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face charges related to the incident.
This distressing occurrence took place on Tuesday, as several female employees were coerced into removing their clothes after a used sanitary towel was discovered in the incorrect disposal bin.
Investigations conducted by the Gender office at Tigoni police station revealed that this was not the first instance in which a senior manager had compelled female workers to undress.
Senator Gloria Orwoba, who initially brought attention to the incident, received a distress call about the matter on Monday night.
She shared details of the incident on her social media platforms, stating, “I received a report about an incident at Brown Cheese Company in Limuru that the Quality Assurance Manager had found a sanitary towel put in the wrong bin. The manager allegedly gathered all the women from the team and told them to undress so that she could identify who was menstruating, intending to punish them for placing the towel in that bin.”
Senator Orwoba expressed her disappointment that the situation had escalated despite her earlier intervention. She also emphasized the importance of implementing the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Policy in Kenya for the benefit of all stakeholders.
