Safaricom PLC has officially announced the appointment of Linda Mesa Wambani as the acting Company Secretary, succeeding Kathryne Maundu, who stepped down after seven years of service.
In a statement released on Friday by Safaricom’s Board Chairperson, Adil Khawaja, it was revealed that Linda Mesa Wambani would assume her new role, subject to regulatory approval, starting from October 1, 2023.
The Board acknowledged Linda Mesa Wambani’s extensive legal expertise, highlighting her qualifications as a seasoned advocate with over 19 years of experience.
Currently serving as a Senior Legal Counsel at Safaricom PLC, she plays a pivotal role in providing legal and corporate governance support not only to the company but also to the M-PESA Foundation and Safaricom’s investment entities operating in Ethiopia.
Before joining Safaricom PLC, Linda Wambani worked as a commercial and litigation lawyer at Dentons Hamilton Harrison and Mathews.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and has further enriched her educational background with a master of business administration in strategic management from the United States International University (USIU).
Additionally, she has earned a master of laws degree in commercial law from UON (University of Nairobi). Linda Wambani is also a certified public secretary, a notary public, and a commissioner for oaths.
Furthermore, she actively participates in professional associations, holding memberships in the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, the Women on Boards Network, and the Law Society of Kenya.
The Safaricom Board took a moment to express their appreciation for Kathryne Maundu’s dedicated service and valuable contributions during her tenure.
Maundu had served on the Board and its various committees for over seven years, supporting the Board in fulfilling its mandates while ensuring compliance with Kenyan laws and regulations. The Board extended their best wishes to Kathryne Maundu in her future endeavors.
