An incident that unfolded at the Garissa County Assembly during a Business Committee meeting on Thursday has prompted investigative agencies to launch a thorough probe.

The session ended abruptly as a brawl erupted among Members of County Assembly (MCAs), resulting in the vandalism of the assembly chambers.

The conflict commenced while Speaker Abdi Idle was presiding over the House Business Committee. A group of aggrieved MCAs, many of whom held leadership positions, stormed into the chambers and engaged in a verbal altercation with the Speaker.

Speaker Abdi Idle found himself in a precarious situation, physically trapped between tables within the chambers.

The Sergeant-at-Arms came to his rescue, ensuring his safety by escorting him away from the tumult.

After the turmoil subsided, the Speaker addressed the press from his office. He revealed that despite his rescue by the Sergeant-at-Arms and some committee members, the opposing MCAs relentlessly pursued him, seemingly intent on physical confrontation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter until a meaningful resolution is achieved. Several members have already provided statements to the police regarding the incident.
