Motorists using Uhuru Highway in Nairobi will be required to find alternative routes due to a 3-day closure announced by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to allow for maintenance works.
According to the authority’s statement, a section of the busy highway will be closed from Thursday, October 19, to Saturday, October 21.
Drivers heading towards Mombasa Road are advised to take the exit at Haile Selassie roundabout and share the carriageway with Nairobi-bound traffic. They will then rejoin the Mombasa-bound carriageway at Bunyala roundabout.
The closure is necessary to facilitate maintenance work on this section of the highway.
“Motorists are advised to approach this section with caution and follow traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and police,” the KENHA statement reads in part.
The statement was signed by KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u.

KeNHA has been actively involved in repair works on lower-decker roads, including Uhuru Highway and Mombasa Road, which are linked to the Nairobi Expressway. These repairs are essential to prevent flooding, especially as the El Nino rain season is expected to last from October 2023 to January 2024.
