Kenya Power has issued a statement confirming it was experiencing a system issue affecting purchase of tokens by its customers

Kenya Power Company (KPC) on Thursday, October 19, issued a statement attributing delays in purchasing electricity tokens to a ‘technical hitch’ in their system.

The electricity generating company explained that it was experiencing a failure in the system that was affecting the generation of tokens for users looking to top up their accounts.

However, they did not explain what the technical hitch was, just saying that they were hoping to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible.

The hitch has left thousands of Kenyans without power as they were not able to buy tokens through Kenya Power’s paybill number 888880.

Most of the customers attempting to buy tokens through the paybill complained of receiving the message, “the Organization’s system receiving the payment is experiencing some technical challenges, try again later”.

In July, the company was among service providers who experienced a disruption of major services across the country. They were forced to issue a statement regarding this disruption that affected various services including mobile banking services.

This latest hitch comes at a time country continues to experience delays in digital services for the past three days.

The electricity company has now advised its customers to purchase tokens from the Kenya Power banking halls, Airtel Money, and other authorized banks.

The company has also apologized to its customers for the inconvenience caused, saying that they are working with their service provider to restore the affected services as soon as possible.
